The generic blue Nike jerseys that Aim High ATL wears doesn’t give off the impression of notoriety or fame. There isn’t a lot of fanfare around the program. If you talk to any of the players on the roster, laying low is perfectly fine with them.

“We’re used to not being noticed,” says point guard Cleveland Jackson. “We don’t have brand new jerseys. We don’t need them. I think that helps unifies us more.”

That unity helped Aim High ATL win the 16 and under division, beating Florida Assault 52-50 to claim the 16 and under division of the 2012 Peach State Summer Showcase.

Aim High ATL’s road to the title wasn’t an easy one. With a couple of pool play losses early, the team had to scrap and fight to get into the championship game, beating some quality teams along the way. Paced by 6-foot-5 forward Eric Lockett, Aim High ATL did the right things at the right time.

“We kept playing, never focused on (the losses) and bounced back.” Lockett, who had 18 points in the final, said. “Our team just keeps working, keeps playing. I was really happy with how we played in the tournament.”

The team has played together since they wer in seventh grade, according to Jackson, and that longevity and familiarity came into play this week in Aiken/Augusta. Aim High ATL is off to Las Vegas next week.

“I think this win sets the precedent for us,” Jackson said.
