King James Southern Exposure: Sunday
NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. – The first King James Southern Exposure is in the books as the super pools closed out strong and champions were crowned in bracket play at Riverview Park.
Here’s a quick rundown of what happened on Sunday:
E1T1 Polk won the 17U gold championship beating Dedicated Sports 65-55. Alante Fenner led the Floridians with 21 points in the championship game.
Birmingham Ice Xpress claimed the 17U silver championship, beating South Piedmont Heat. It was a solid week for power forward DeRunnya Wilson, too.
Team Impact 16U won the gold division tournament. It wasn’t easy, though. After starting the game off strong with big shots from the perimeter, the Low Country Ballers stormed back and made it a game in the second half. Stephon Jelks led Team Impact with 20 points. John Towne added 18 while Hunter Ware chipped in with 16. Low Country had 23 points from Dantez Bennamon.
Team Athens beat the Southern Kings for the 16U silver championship 86-79.
The Upward Stars went undefeated in the 17U super pools, continuing the great run in the spring grassroots season with only one loss on the year so far. They won the Icebreaker and performed very well at the King James Southern Exposure.
What team impressed you the most this past weekend? Tell us in the comments section below.

The most impressive was the South Piedmont Heat 17u (Charlotte,NC) They played with only 5 players the whole tournament and still made it to the Silver Bracket Championship, losing in the last seconds by three. Great Job to those five guys. (Tahjai Watt,Rashawn McGruder,Juwan Johnson,Dondre Howell, and Dmitri Reaves) These guys had each others back no matter how tough the game got.
I think TEAM ATHENS was most impressive they had nothing over 6'4 and still made it to the silver championship those boys wanted it badly they can compete with anyone there defense is unstoppable!
thats who i play for im number 22 we have an ambition to win and make it
I am the coach of the Lowcountryballers 16U Boys that played in this past weekend tourney. We really enjoyed the competition and finished runner-up in the Gold Division. We are back in South Carolina now getting ready for the BOO Williams Nike Invitational now.
The United Ballers For Christ 14 and under team was very impressive.A young man by the name of Kobie Whitfield will be a force to recon with in the future.Great tournament and talent glad we decided to attend. thanks for the hospitality and the opportunity to show that talent is'nt always in the big name clubs. go ballers
I wanna send a shout out to my team the Lowcountryballers 16U Select team, we came down quietly and did our thing and left town.We finished runnerup in the gold bracket and hope to see you all at Peach State in July.
