Trending at the #PeachSt: Wednesday
AIKEN. S.C. - The first day of the 2012 Peach State Summer Showcase is in the books and it was easy to understand what the topics of discussion were on Wednesday night. We look at what was trending from the action at USC Aiken.
John Egbunu walked off the floor on Friday night, flexing his hand and grimacing in pain. His hand hurt. There was no secret about that. But if you understand what the future South Florida Bull did against Birmingham Ice Elite, you’d understand why he was favoring his paw.
Egbunu scored 18 points and ripped down 10 rebounds in a win against the Ice. The rims may need to be tightened after the 6-foot-10 center bent them all night long. Here’s the thing with Egbunu – where he was in March to where he is now is impressive. In fact, we could be looking at the most improved center in the Southeast.
Egbunu will be a major impact player for Stan Heath and USF when he comes into college. The Bulls locked him up early and beat the recruiting rush that would certainly follow the Peach State had he not already been committed to a school.
The big man says he remains strong with the Bulls and looks forward to joining the team.
“I really liked their staff,” Egbunu said. “I think they can take my game even further. The sky’s the limit and I figure I might as well go for it.”
Egbunu is off to a great start so far at the Peach State Summer Showcase. ‘
ALL EYES ON US
The first night of the Peach State Summer Showcase brought out the college coaches in a big way. There were over 150 schools at USC Aiken on opening night to catch the action. From Stanford to Samford from Southern Cal to South Carolina, schools from coast-to-coast piled into the gyms to see the action.
This was the busiest night for college coaches in the history of the Peach State Summer Showcase and we anticipate seeing the number of coaches grow even more into the rest of the week.
Thanks, coaches, for coming to our event and watching the action.
We also had media from ESPN, Scout, Rivals, 247Sports, Phenom Hoop Report, Future150, Northstar Basketball, JucoJunction, and more at the Peach State Summer Showcase on the first night of action. Talk about national exposure.
TRENDING TWEETS OF THE NIGHT
Was really impressed with South Florida commit John Egbunu. He’s already a top 100 member. May be due a bump. #PEACHST

John Egbunu is the real deal. Not just a low post mauler. Has some patience, touch and is an alert passer out of double teams. — Eric Bossi (@ebosshoops) July 18, 2012
USF-bound center John Egbunu having a strong game down low for Douglas Brothers Elite here at #PeachSt. Strong, physical interior presence. — Alex Schwartz (@NorthstarBball) July 18, 2012
John Egbunu is a beastly dude on the interior. USF’s Stan Heath smiling for good reason. — Eric Bossi (@ebosshoops) July 18, 2012
John Egbunu is a monster on the backboard. Strong and uses his length. Aggressively pursues the ball. — Evan Daniels (@EvanDanielsFOX) July 18, 2012
